Electric Vehicles

We feel strongly that electric vehicles, particularly those using renewable energy sources, are essential to reducing our emissions of climate changing gas, our dependence on declining fossil fuels, and moving toward a sustainable economy and lifestyle. We try to “walk the talk”.

Since spring 2006 our work vehicle has been an all wheel drive Ford Escape Hybrid. By driving carefully, we consistently average 30 mpg to as high as 34 mpg. Better than the EPA highway rating.

We are a member of the Advanced Vehicle Innovations group in Wenatchee, WA, sponsored by the Port of Chelan County. AVI is dedicated to promoting the use of plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles. The AVI Tech Group, which we are also a member of, actively implements plug-in hybrid and electric vehicle technology. The group has converted a Toyota Prius, owned by the Port of County, to a plup-in hybrid which can get over 100 mpg.

We led the conversion of a row crop cultivator tractor to electric drive (wiring diagram). The conversion was done in one day by the AVI Tech Group at the Wenatchee Valley College auto shop. The tractor is owned and used by Sunshine Organics, a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) vegetable farm near Chelan, WA.

For the last four years we have used a Gorilla electric ATV for chores in our yard, snow plowing, etc.

We provided financial support to the Chelan School District toward the purchase of a plug-in hybrid electric biodiesel school bus. One of 19 plug-in hybrid school buses in the nation, it will be used alongside standard diesel buses to demonstrate hybrid technology.

We urge you to take what action you can to reduce CO2 emissions and use of fossil fuels, and instead to use electric vehicle technology whenever possible. Together we can make a difference.
