Kingsbury Wind Farm, Malaga, WA

June and Charlie Nichols installed the first grid tied wind turbine to produce power for the Chelan County PUD Sustainable Natural Alternative Power (SNAP) program in 2002. (See "First Chelan County PUD SNAP program wind turbine". The initial two years of revenue from the first turbine induced them to install a second Bergey 10kW grid tied wind turbine system. The SNAP program limit of 25kW of production allowed for a second Bergey 10kW wind turbine to be installed.

Our wind turbine crew came together to complete the installation in the spring of 2004. The second Bergey 10kW turbine, with enhanced blade design and inverter capacity, is performing noticeably better than turbine 1, particularly in low wind speeds.

The wind turbine is assembled prior to being lifted into place by crane.

The second Bergey 10kW is lifted into place. Note turbine 1 in the background with a climber on the tower.

The two Bergey GridTek 10 UL listed grid tie inverters, manufactured by Xantrex, are parallelled through a SNAP production meter to feed the PUD grid.

Old and new technologies stand together on the Nichols farm.
