Wenatchee Racquet & Athletic Club (WRAC) solar pool heating system, Wenatchee, WA

The WRAC olympic sized pool was not staying warm enough for youth swimmers taking lessons. Many complained that the existing electric heater was not heating the pool adequately. Adding electric heaters would have required very expensive three phase electrical service to the pool house.

An array of ten 4’ x 12’ FAFCO solar collectors provided the energy needed to keep the pool as warm as desired. The spring after the solar system was installed, when the pool was filled, all 100,000 gallons was heated with only solar energy. The solar pool heating system has saved more than it cost in just two years.

The WRAC has an olympic sized pool.

The slightly sloping, west facing WRAC pool house roof worked well for mounting the solar array.

The WRAC solar pool array is unobtrusive when viewed from the street.
