Local:
- WA state net meter law requires your utility to allow you to feed renewable energy (RE) into the grid and be credited at the retail rate. Your account is reconciled annually and any excess power produced is donated to the utility. This does not apply to off grid sites that are not connected to the utility.
State:
- All services, equipment, and labor for solar and wind electric systems over 200 watts are exempt from state sales tax. This is an 8% savings.
- The recently passed WA RE Incentive law allows your utility pay up to $0.54/kWh, not to exceed $2,000 per year, for renewable energy production. This does not apply to off grid sites that are not connected to the utility.
Federal:
- The recently passed Federal Energy Bill provides for an income tax credit of 30% of the cost of solar energy systems (up to $2,000 for individuals, no cap for businesses.) This applies to both PV and solar hot water systems, but does not apply to solar pool or wind systems.
- Businesses can depreciate the value of the system on their taxes.
- You can sell the “Green Tags” (environmental attributes) for $0.05/kWh for PV and $0.04/kWh for wind energy.
All these values are additive.
